Reconstructing a Society

One of the areas hit very hard in the war against the Islamic State was the district of Sinjar in northern Iraq. In this project, Nadia’s Initiative, Inc. seeks to rebuild both communities and people in the Sinjar district.

The majority of those living in the Sinjar district are Yazidis, a minority group that has been particularly targeted by IS soldiers. Many Yazidis were murdered, and infrastructure was destroyed during the ravages of war. Many Yazidi women were imprisoned and used as sex slaves.

The project is supported with 5 000 000 SEK.


What the project delivers

Mapping of efforts to analyze the outcome with the greatest impact, rebuilding schools and systems for water and sanitation. An exchange of knowledge with healthcare personnel from DRC who have developed a successful holistic care for victims of sexual abuse.
