Rapid Response Evidence: Anti-Corruption Helpdesk (RREACH)
Corruption has significant consequences for society as it weakens democratic controls, undermines the integrity of political and economic systems, increases the vulnerability of institutions and states, and erodes the social contract between the state and its citizens.
Civil society organizations play a crucial role in engaging and pressuring public authorities to implement anti-corruption reforms by highlighting and exposing corruption and holding those who abuse power accountable. However, civil society organizations are under pressure in many countries and often lack the capacity to produce the materials and evidence needed for their work.
In this project, Transparency International aims to strengthen the investigative capacity and knowledge of organizations fighting corruption. The goal is for these organizations to be better equipped to gather evidence and documentation that reveal, monitor, and address corruption, thereby effectively combating it.
The project is supported with 2 460 000 SEK.
What happens in the project?
The project consists of three parts:
- – The first part provides civil society organizations in 113 countries, affiliated with Transparency International, with support for investigative tasks related to anti-corruption, good governance, and accountability. Additionally, the organizations receive assistance in developing investigation plans and access to materials.
- – The second part aims to promote learning between civil society organizations and experts in different countries.
- – The third part focuses on strengthening the ability of civil society organizations to conduct their own investigations. Based on the organizations’ needs and the technical and investigative gaps identified by Transparency International, digital workshops will be organized on various topics.
Why was the project supported?
There are well-documented links between corruption and lower levels of peace, justice, and equality. Therefore, it is crucial to combat corruption, and civil society organizations worldwide play a central role in this effort. Strengthening their capacity to drive change and improvements is essential for creating more peaceful, just, and equitable societies.
