Voices Camp

Since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, children and young people in Ukraine have faced immense hardship. Many have lost family members, been forced to flee their homes, lived under occupation, or endured constant threats of violence and instability. Their education, daily lives, and sense of safety have been deeply disrupted. A generation now risks growing up with lasting psychological trauma, often without access to support or opportunities for recovery. Reports show a sharp rise in mental health issues among children and adolescents, including post-traumatic stress, depression, anxiety, and sleep disorders—while access to mental health care remains severely limited.

With this project, Olena Zelenska Foundation aims to strengthen young people’s emotional resilience and reduce the psychological impact of the war through youth camps.

The project is supported with 2,720,000 SEK.

What will happen in the project?

The initiative targets the urgent need for mental recovery among teenagers aged 11–16 who have been affected by war, trauma, and difficult life circumstances in Ukraine. Through therapeutic camps, the project offers a safe and supportive environment where young people can begin to process emotional stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma. The camps combine tailored therapeutic support with meaningful recreational activities and peer interaction, helping participants build emotional strength, improve mental well-being, and regain a sense of normalcy and hope for the future.

Why is this project funded?

In times of war and conflict, children and young people are among the most vulnerable. They are exposed to severe psychological stress and traumatic experiences that can have long-term consequences. Supporting initiatives that promote mental health in these situations is essential – and this project  contributes to strengthening the emotional resilience of young people in Ukraine.
