Fighting illegal trade with exotic pets
The number of wild vertebrates has decreased by more than half during the last 40 years. A contributing factor is poaching and the illegal trade of animal products. This trade includes animal parts such as ivory, rhino horns and reptile skins, but also live animals sold as exotic pets. The fight to stop the illegal trade of live animals comes with specific challenges and requires fast action.
Many animals die before they even arrive, and for each animal that is sold alive, four more die during transportation. In this project, Stichting Wildlife Justice Comission aims to counter that negative development.
The project is supported with 2 500 000 SEK.
