Girl-led action on climate change in LAC

Climate change is already having devastating consequences for people around the world, and women and girls are affected disproportionately. The Paris Agreement calls for equal participation of men and women in decision-making on climate policy, but the progress is slow. When women and girls are excluded from climate work, the chances of achieving the global goals of a sustainable climate deteriorate. Investing in girls’ education on climate is therefore a preventive measure. In Latin America and the Caribbean, there is a particular need to address the vulnerability of girls experiencing the effects of climate change and whose views are excluded in the decision-making process.

In this project, WAGGGS, aims to educate girls in Latin America and the Caribbean on climate change to strengthen their capacity and empowerment to act so that they can implement effective measures at local, regional and international level.

The project is supported with SEK 2 340 000.

What does the project deliver?

Educating in identifying, analysing and acting on climate change. Support in implementing climate alliances in their local area. Knowledge-enhancing activities to give the target company tools to carry out campaigns aimed at decision-makers. And finally, capacity-enhancing the member organizations participating in the project as needed.

Why do we support this project?

The need for adaptation to ongoing and future climate change is crucial, especially for the most vulnerable populations in the least developed countries. Harnessing the abilities and initiatives of women and girls is an important factor for development and achieving the global goals.
