Support for Vulnerable Women in the Democratic Republic of Congo
The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is one of the poorest and least developed countries in the world with 64% of the population living below the poverty line. Women are amongst the most vulnerable, with about one third having been exposed to sexual violence and more than half subjected to violence in close relationships. Women are more likely to live in poverty while at the same time having an increased exposure to gender-related violence and having less influence over decisions in the family and local communities than men.
Women for Women International are working to increase gender equality and giving women in the DRC opportunities to get out of poverty and actively participate in decision-making for the family and society.
