Elfehrest – An Open Source Archival System
Content uploaded to social media that violates the guidelines is often removed by the companies that operate the services. This is done without warning and transparency, which means that valuable information that can convict the perpetrators in a legal process is lost. In order for the content to be preserved and useful in lawsuits and courts, the material needs to be archived and made searchable.
In this project, Mnemonic wants to archive content that is at risk of being deleted on social media and make the digital material searchable and accessible to lawyers, journalists and international legal processes, thereby counteracting impunity.
The project is supported with SEK 2 100 000.
What does the project deliver?
The launch of the collaborative platform Elfehrest, which makes content in Mnemonics’ archives searchable and categorized.
The work is divided into three phases:
- – Strengthening the security of the archive’s technical infrastructure to reduce the spread of sensitive data.
- – Developing actor database for journalists and prosecutors for the possibility of adding information.
- – Launching Elfeherest and training of users to collect, document and verify digital evidence using the service.
Why do we support this project?
The project contributes to the accessibility of vital material from conflict driven areas, making it available for the international court to combat impunity.
