The Weave – An opera on Creativity, Consumption and Compassion

Textile workers in countries such as Bangladesh, India, China, and Turkey often work in hazardous environments, under difficult working conditions, and with poor wages. Bangladesh is the world’s third largest clothing exporter, and many major Swedish clothing brands have large production within the country. Söndrebaljsoperan’s project is based on the opera, The Weave, which examines women’s working conditions in connection with textile production. In addition to the performance of the opera in Bangladesh and Sweden, a number of parallel activities will be organized, including discussions about textile workers rights.

What the project delivers

Performances, workshops, and seminars in Sweden and Bangladesh.

Why we support this project

The project uses opera as a way to raise public awareness, promote cultural cooperation, encourage people to rethink their consumption choices, and exhibit women’s work and life situation in Bangladesh.

Project time status

This project started in October 2017 and ended in December 2018
